Its very common in Srilanka, for breakfast and dinner, there are different varieties in string hoppers Made with  Wheat flour, Red rice flour and white rice flour. Our choice is white rice flour. There is a special tool to squeez the dough with. My mom bough me one when she visited me last time. Its all worth it for me. :P

Ingredients for Coconut Sambol:

Salt.

Method:

You have a great blog! I'm an American who has traveled to Sri Lanka many times and I have a hard time returning to the USA and not finding good Sri Lankan food! I love String Hoppers and I have not been able to find any mats to steam them on - or the proper press to make the hoppers. Do you have a source or idea where I can get these online? Keep up the recipes - they're wonderful.
best wishes - Wendy
